Why Homeowners Trust Us

Quality Work. Honest Service. Lasting Value.

Granite is natural stone at its most durable, and it is the surface we recommend whenever heat and the outdoors are in play. Palacios Construction Group fabricates and installs granite countertops for homeowners across Conroe, Willis, the Lake Conroe area, and greater Houston. For an outdoor kitchen, a busy cooktop area, or anyone who simply loves the depth and character of real stone, granite is the right call, and no two slabs are ever the same. It is also a surface with genuine character, since the stone was formed over millions of years, and no slab will ever be repeated.

Granite's standout strength is heat and sun. You can set a hot pan straight on it, and unlike engineered quartz, it holds its color and integrity outdoors under the punishing Texas sun. That is exactly why we steer outdoor kitchens, grill islands, and poolside bars to granite, where quartz would yellow and degrade. Because granite is a natural, porous stone, we seal it properly so it resists stains and stays beautiful for years. That single property is why, in a region full of outdoor kitchens and full-sun patios, granite is so often the only countertop that makes sense outside.

What Makes Granite
the Right Choice

Three Things That Make Granite Worth It

Granite has been a premium countertop for decades, and three things explain why, including the one place it clearly beats quartz: heat and the outdoors.

01

Heat & outdoor performance

This is granite’s biggest advantage. As a natural stone formed under heat and pressure, it shrugs off a hot pan and holds its color and strength outdoors, even under the relentless Texas sun. That is exactly why we recommend granite, not quartz, for outdoor kitchens.

02

One-of-a-kind natural stone

No two granite slabs are identical. The movement, flecks, and depth are formed by nature, so your countertop is genuinely one of a kind — which is exactly why hand-selecting the actual slab matters so much.

03

Sealing & care

Because granite is a natural, porous stone, it needs sealing to resist stains. That is simply how natural stone works, and a properly sealed granite top is highly stain-resistant. We seal it on installation and show you the simple resealing routine.

Local Conditions in Montgomery County

Granite in the Lake Conroe Climate

Our heat, sun, and outdoor-living culture all shape where granite is the right choice. These are the realities we guide around.

Texas sun and outdoor kitchens

This is granite's home turf. Around Lake Conroe, outdoor kitchens are everywhere, and they are exactly where the wrong countertop fails fast. Granite holds its color and strength under the intense Texas sun and heat, while engineered quartz yellows and degrades outdoors. For any outdoor counter, granite is the call we make every time. We have replaced more than one sun-yellowed quartz outdoor counter with granite, which is exactly the mistake choosing granite from the start avoids.

Heat from grills and cooktops

Outdoor and indoor cooking both put heat on a countertop, and granite takes it. You can set a hot pan or a grill tool straight down without the scorch risk quartz carries. For serious cooks and for grill islands, that heat tolerance is a real, daily advantage.

Humidity and proper sealing

Our Gulf Coast humidity means a porous natural stone has to be sealed correctly to resist moisture and stains. We seal granite properly on installation and set honest resealing expectations, so the stone stays protected and beautiful in our climate rather than absorbing spills. It is a simple routine once the homeowner knows it, and a properly sealed granite top handles spills and humidity without a second thought.

Hard water and natural stone

Many homes here, especially on wells, have hard water that can leave deposits on stone. We help you choose finishes and a care routine that keep granite easy to clean, and proper sealing is a big part of keeping hard water from dulling the surface.

Entertaining and poolside bars

Lake living revolves around hosting, and outdoor bars and grill islands are central to it. Granite is the durable, heat- and sun-proof surface these spaces need, standing up to drinks, grills, and full sun, which is why we build so many granite outdoor counters in our area. Granite is the surface that lets those spaces look great and take real use season after season.

A deep Houston slab market

Being just north of Houston gives our clients access to a wide range of granite, from common colors to rare, dramatic slabs. Hand-selecting from that deep market means you can find the exact stone you want, at the price point you want, rather than settling for a thin local selection. That depth of selection is a real advantage, since the perfect stone for a kitchen is sometimes a one-off slab that a smaller showroom would never carry.

Pricing

How Granite Countertops Are Priced

Granite is priced by the slab and the square footage, with the rarity of the stone, the edge profile, the number of seams and cutouts, and any backsplash all factored in. Because granite is natural, individual slabs vary in price by color and rarity, which is one more reason to select your actual slab.

Free on-site estimate

We do not charge for estimates. Joel talks through the look and where it will live, helps you select a slab, and gives you a written quote at no cost and no obligation.

What drives the price

The biggest factor is the slab itself, since common granite colors cost far less than rare, heavily veined, or exotic stone. After that, square footage, the edge profile, the number of seams and cutouts, and a full-height slab backsplash all move the number. We lay each line out so you can choose the stone that fits your budget. Two kitchens of identical size can land at very different prices purely because of the stone chosen, which is why selecting the slab and the budget go together.

Why selecting your slab matters

Because granite is natural and priced by the slab, seeing the actual stone before you buy protects you from surprises and lets you get the exact look and price you want. We make that selection part of the process rather than an afterthought.

In Practice

The Granite Work We Do

Here is how our granite work shows up for real homeowners in our area.

A granite countertop for an outdoor kitchen

Melissa R. hired us to remodel her mother's apartment and to fix a granite countertop for her outdoor kitchen. In her words, we were responsive and had fair pricing, and she highly recommends our crew and us. That outdoor granite is exactly the call we guide clients toward, because granite holds up to the Texas sun and heat, where engineered stone would fade and yellow. (Google review) It is a perfect example of granite in its element, an outdoor surface that shrugs off the heat and sun that would ruin a lesser material.

The granite-outdoors, quartz-indoors guidance

A conversation we have with nearly every countertop client is about where each material belongs. For most indoor kitchens, we recommend quartz for its low maintenance, but for outdoor kitchens, grill islands, and poolside bars, we steer clients firmly to granite, which handles the heat and UV beautifully. Matching the material to the use is the most valuable advice we give. Getting that one decision right is the difference between a countertop a client loves for a decade and one they are calling us to replace in two summers.

A natural-stone kitchen with real character

Plenty of homeowners simply love real stone, and for them, a granite kitchen is the right choice. We hand-select a slab with the movement and depth they fall in love with, fabricate the edges, and seal it properly. The result is a one-of-a-kind kitchen counter that takes a hot pan without a second thought. There is a depth and authenticity to natural granite that even the best engineered look cannot fully replicate, and for the right client, that is exactly the point.

The Expertise Behind the Work

What Goes Into a Granite Countertop

Working with natural stone takes selection knowledge and fabrication skill. Here is the expertise behind ours.

Knowing when granite is the right call

The most valuable thing we bring is honest material guidance. Granite is our recommendation for outdoor kitchens and high-heat areas because it handles the sun and a hot pan, while quartz is better indoors for its low maintenance. Steering each client to the material that fits the use, not the priciest one, is where countertop satisfaction is won. Sending a client home with the right stone for their actual use, rather than the most expensive one on the floor, is how we have earned referrals for decades.

Hand-selecting natural stone

Because no two granite slabs are alike, selection is the most important step. We bring clients into the yard at our Houston slab partner to hand-select the exact slab, since the movement and color you fall in love with on one slab will not be repeated on the next. The slab you approve is the slab we install. A small sample chip cannot show the movement of a full slab, so standing in front of the actual stone is the only way to truly know what you are getting.

Sealing natural stone correctly

Granite is porous, so sealing is part of doing it right. We seal the stone on installation so it resists stains, and we explain the simple resealing routine that keeps it protected in our humid, hard-water climate. Proper sealing is the difference between granite that stays beautiful and granite that absorbs a spill.

Templating and seam planning

A flawless granite install comes down to accurate templating and smart seam placement, which matters even more with natural stone because the pattern has to flow across a seam. We template precisely and plan the seams where they are least visible and best supported, so the finished countertop reads as continuous as the stone allows.

Edges and finishes

We fabricate every edge in granite, from clean, straight, and eased edges to bullnose, ogee, and chiseled profiles, and we offer polished, honed, and leathered finishes. The edge and finish set the character of the counter, and we help you choose what fits the look, whether a sleek modern kitchen or a rugged outdoor bar. A leathered finish in particular has become popular for hiding fingerprints and water spots, and we help clients weigh those practical finish choices.

Outdoor-kitchen integration

Granite outdoors is more than a slab on a frame. We integrate it with the grill island, the structure, and the drainage of the outdoor kitchen, and because we self-perform the concrete and outdoor-living work, the granite top is part of a coordinated build rather than a piece dropped on at the end. We build the structure, the drainage, and the counter as one project, so an outdoor granite top is supported and finished to last in the weather rather than dropped onto a flimsy base.

Installing heavy stone correctly

Granite is heavy, and a countertop is only as sound as its support. We make sure the cabinetry or the outdoor structure is level and properly built to carry it, set the slab correctly, and join the seams cleanly, so your granite sits flat, stays put, and lasts for the long life of the kitchen.
