Why Homeowners Choose Palacios

A Fence Built Once, Built Right.

What separates a fence that stands straight for years from one that leans by the second season is almost always the posts and how they are set. Our region sits on expansive clay that swells and shrinks, and a fence is only as solid as its footings. We set posts properly for our soils and build with the right wood for our climate, whether that is durable pressure-treated pine or a premium cedar upgrade that looks beautiful, natural, or stained. A fence is one of those projects where the difference between a good crew and a cheap one is invisible at first and obvious a year later.

We are a family company that has built in Texas since 1985, and owner Joel Palacios is on every project. One call reaches a real person, the estimate is free and in writing, and the work is documented and backed by a one-year warranty. When you are ready for a fence that is built once and built right, this is where to start.

Why Some Fences Lean and Others Last

Three Things That Decide How Long Your Fence Stands

Nearly every leaning, sagging, or rotting fence in our area failed for one of three reasons, and all three are decided when the fence is built. Knowing them is how you tell a crew that gives you a low number from one that gives you a fence that lasts.

01

1. The posts and how they are set

The posts are the backbone of the fence, and our expansive clay is hard on them. Set too shallow or without proper concrete footings, posts heave and lean as the soil swells and shrinks, and the whole fence goes with them. We set posts deep and solid for our soils, because a fence that is plumb on day one means nothing if the posts cannot hold it there. We would rather spend the extra time in the ground than come back to a leaning fence, because a straight fence line starts and ends with how the posts are set.

02

2. Full replacement instead of patching

When a fence is failing, piecing in a few new boards or resetting one leaning post is a temporary fix that rarely lasts. We specialize in full tear-out and rebuild, removing the old fence completely and building a new one on properly set posts. It is the difference between chasing the same problem every year and solving it once. It is also why we steer clear of small patch and spring-repair work, since a fresh, fully rebuilt fence is what actually serves the homeowner over the long run.

03

3. The right wood for our climate

Our humidity and rain are tough on wood. Pressure-treated pine is the durable, budget-friendly workhorse for privacy fences here, while Western Red Cedar is the premium upgrade, naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects, that lasts longer and looks beautiful left natural or stained. Choosing the right material and sealing or staining it when appropriate is what keeps a wood fence looking good for years. Matching the wood to the job and finishing it when it makes sense is a small decision up front that adds years to the life of the fence.

Our Process, Start to Finish

How a Palacios
Fence Project Works

From the first measurement to the finished fence, our process keeps the scope, the materials, and the price clear before we start.

01

Your call reaches a real person

You reach Joel or his wife directly. We learn what you are fencing, the style and height you want, and whether gates are involved, then schedule a time to measure the property line.

02

On-site measurement and material selection

Joel walks the property line, checks the grade and any obstacles, and helps you choose the material and style, pressure-treated or cedar, the height, and the gate configuration that fits your needs and budget.

03

A clear written estimate

You receive a written estimate with no hidden fees, honored for up to three months, with the material, footage, and gates laid out clearly.

04

Tear-out and removal

On a replacement, we remove the old fence completely and haul it away, including the old posts and footings that are part of why the previous fence failed.

05

Setting posts

We set new posts deep in concrete footings, plumb and aligned to the property line. This is the stage that determines whether your fence stays straight, and it is the one we never rush.

06

Building the fence and gates

We build the fence panels, hang the gates, and install automatic gate operators, primarily commercial-grade LiftMaster and Apollo, coordinating the licensed electrical for the power run so the whole system works correctly. For metal and wrought-iron fencing, we coordinate with our trusted fabrication specialist.

07

Final walkthrough and warranty

We clean up the site, walk the finished fence with you, and make sure every section and gate operates correctly. Our workmanship is backed by a one-year warranty.

Fencing & Gate Pricing

How Fencing & Gates Are Priced

Fencing is priced by length, material, height, and the gates involved, so the right way to price it is to measure your property line. Your exact price comes in a free written estimate.

Free on-site estimate

We do not charge for estimates. Joel measures the property line, talks through materials and gates, and gives you a written quote at no cost and no obligation.

Typical project range

What a fence costs depends on the length of the run, the material, and the height. Cedar costs more than pressure-treated pine, taller fences cost more than standard heights, and longer property-line setups scale up. Because the variables are so different from yard to yard, an on-site measurement is the only way to give you a number you can rely on.

Gates and premium options

Custom gates, automatic driveway gate operators with access control, metal and wrought-iron fencing, and full property line setups on acreage are priced based on scope. We lay each option out clearly so you can decide what fits your budget.

Why Fences Are Built Differently Around Lake Conroe

The soil, the rain, the storms, and the communities all shape how a fence should be built here. These are the realities we build around.

Expansive clay and post heave

Houston-Black clay swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and that movement is the number-one reason fences lean and fail in our area. Posts set too shallow or without solid concrete footings get pushed and pulled until the fence racks. We set posts deep and solid for our soils, because the posts are where a fence lives or dies here. The same soil that cracks driveways and patios works fence posts loose, which is why we bring the same ground-up discipline to a fence that we bring to our concrete.

Heavy rain and saturated ground

Our area sees well over 50 inches of rain a year, and gumbo clay holds water at the post line. Saturated ground accelerates post movement and rot, which is why proper footings and the right materials matter so much. We build with that wet-and-dry cycle in mind rather than ignoring it.

Humidity, rot, and wood choice

Our humidity is hard on wood fences. Pressure-treated pine is treated to resist rot and is the durable, affordable standard here, while cedar naturally resists decay and weathers beautifully. We help you choose the wood that fits your budget and how much maintenance you want, and we can stain or seal it to extend its life.

Hurricane season and storm damage

Storms like Hurricane Beryl flatten fences across Montgomery and north Harris counties, and the rebuild cycle runs for months afterward. We rebuild storm-damaged fences properly and can work with your insurance on the claim, so the new fence is stronger than the one the storm took down. We build the replacement to stand up better to the next storm, with solid footings and sound construction rather than the minimum the old fence had.

Acreage and ranch properties

The Magnolia, Plantersville, and Anderson areas are full of acreage and horse properties that need long fence runs, ranch fencing, and custom gates. We build full property-line setups for these larger lots, sized and styled for the way rural properties actually use a fence. These projects involve long runs and bigger gates, and we plan the layout, post spacing, and access points around how a working property actually moves people, vehicles, and animals.

Pool-code enforcement

Montgomery County requires a 4-foot, self-closing, self-latching fence around residential pools, and inspectors enforce it. We build pool fencing to code so a new pool passes inspection and an existing pool stays compliant for insurance and safety. Getting this right is not just about passing inspection; it is a real safety barrier for children and pets, and we treat it that way.

HOA and community standards

Master-planned communities around Lake Conroe, Walden, Bentwater, and The Woodlands have rules about fence height, style, and materials. We build to those standards and help you stay within the guidelines, so your new fence is approved rather than flagged.

In Practice

The Kind of Fence Work We Do

Here are representative examples of how we approach fencing and gates in our area. Where a project is a typical example of work we do routinely, we have said so plainly.

A full privacy-fence replacement

A typical project for us is a complete tear-out and rebuild of a leaning, aging pressure-treated privacy fence. We remove the old fence and its failed posts entirely, set new posts deep in concrete along the property line, and build a fresh 6-foot fence that stands straight. This is the bread and butter of what we do, and it is why we focus on full replacements rather than patch repairs. Homeowners are often surprised by how much straighter and more solid the new fence feels, simply because the posts were finally set correctly.

A cedar upgrade with a custom gate

Many homeowners use a fence replacement as the moment to upgrade from pressure-treated pine to cedar, which lasts longer and looks far richer, especially when stained. We pair these with a custom wood gate built to match, so the entrance is as finished as the fence itself.

Storm damage and pool-code work

After a major storm like Hurricane Beryl, downed and damaged fences are everywhere, and we can rebuild them properly and work with your insurance on the claim. We also handle pool-code fencing, building the 4-foot, self-closing, self-latching enclosures Montgomery County requires so a new pool passes inspection and keeps families safe.

The Expertise Behind the Work

What Sets Our Fencing Work Apart

A good fence looks simple and is anything but. Here is the thinking behind ours.

Setting posts for our soils

The single most important part of a lasting fence here is the posts. We set them deep in concrete footings, plumb and aligned, so the expansive clay cannot heave them out of position. Cheap crews save time and money by setting posts shallow, and that shortcut is exactly why so many fences in our area lean within a couple of years. Everything else, the boards, the gates, the stain, is only as good as the posts holding it all up.

Full tear-out and rebuild

We focus on complete fence replacement rather than patchwork. Resetting one leaning post or splicing in a few boards leaves the underlying problem in place, and the failure simply moves down the line. Removing the old fence and its footings entirely and building fresh on new posts is how we deliver a fence that actually solves the problem. A fully rebuilt fence on new posts also looks uniform and clean, instead of mixing weathered old sections with bright new boards.

Pressure-treated versus cedar

Pressure-treated pine is treated to resist rot and insects and is the durable, affordable choice for most privacy fences in our climate. Cedar costs more but lasts longer, resists warping, and has a natural beauty that takes stain wonderfully. We help you weigh the two against your budget and how you want the fence to look over time. For homeowners who want the richest look and the longest life from a wood fence, cedar is the upgrade we point them toward, and it rewards a coat of stain beautifully.

Horizontal and modern styles

While vertical privacy fencing is still the most common request, the horizontal, modern look has become popular around Conroe and The Woodlands. We build horizontal fences with attention to board sizing, spacing, and a clean, level line, so the modern look stays crisp rather than sagging into something rough.

Pool code-compliant fencing

Pool fencing is not just another fence; it is a safety barrier with specific code requirements. We build 4-foot, self-closing, self-latching pool enclosures that meet Montgomery County code, with the gate hardware and spacing that pass inspection, so your pool is both compliant and safe for children and pets.

Custom and automatic gates

A gate is the part of a fence that gets used every day, so it has to be built and hung to last. We build custom wood gates to match your fence, and for automatic driveway gates, we install commercial-grade LiftMaster and Apollo operators with access control, or whatever operator brand you prefer, coordinating the licensed electrical so the system works reliably for years. A sagging, dragging gate is the first thing to fail on a cheap fence, so we build and hang ours to swing true for years.

Metal, iron, and commercial fencing

For wrought-iron, welded steel, and commercial security fencing, we bring in our trusted metal-fence specialist so that the work is fabricated and installed correctly. That means you still get one accountable point of contact for the whole project, with the specialty steel work handled by the right hands.
