The whole character of board and batten comes from the rhythm of the vertical lines, so the spacing has to be planned, not guessed. Battens spaced too close look busy, too far apart look bare, and inconsistent spacing looks amateur from the street. We lay out the spacing across each elevation before installation, accounting for windows, doors, and corners, so the pattern is even and intentional and the eye reads it as designed rather than improvised. That planning never shows once the boards are up, and it is the reason the wall looks custom rather than random.

Vertical siding is unforgiving. Any lean, wave, or drift shows instantly because the eye follows those long vertical lines. We install the boards and battens straight and plumb, keeping the runs true across the whole wall, because the crisp, orderly look that makes board and batten appealing depends entirely on those lines being dead straight. A full modern farmhouse exterior

A Magnolia family wanted the modern farmhouse look for their whole home. We installed fiber-cement board and batten over a repaired, properly wrapped wall, planned the batten spacing so it stayed even around every window, and finished it in a crisp color. The house went from builder-plain to the standout on the street, with a durable material built to last in our climate.

A gable accent that tied it together

On a Klein home with lap siding, the owners wanted more character up top. We added engineered-wood board and batten in the gables, matched to the existing exterior, which gave the whole elevation a designed, intentional look for a fraction of a full re-side. It is a good example of using the style as an accent.

A mixed elevation with stone

A family near Tomball combined board and batten with a stone wainscot for a layered, high-end front. We coordinated the two so the materials met cleanly, kept the vertical lines straight above the stone, and detailed the transition, so the elevation reads as a single designed facade rather than two materials bumped together.
